How to weigh aptitude, interest and long-term outcomes before locking in a stream.

Career

Choosing a stream after Class 10 is the first big career-shaped decision most Indian students make. Here's how to do it without defaulting to whatever your friends are picking.

What each stream actually opens (and closes)

  • Science (PCM/PCB): engineering, medicine, research, plus everything Commerce/Arts allow.
  • Commerce: CA, finance, economics, business, law, design.
  • Arts/Humanities: law, civil services, psychology, journalism, design, liberal arts.

The 4-axis scoring sheet we use

Score each stream from 1–5 on: interest, current aptitude, parental support, and 10-year career interest. Highest total wins — and the gap between #1 and #2 tells you how confident the call is.

Common traps

  • Picking Science 'to keep options open' when you actively dislike Math.
  • Picking Commerce because a cousin is a CA.
  • Treating Arts as a fallback rather than a real choice.
